I took this shot yesterday at Gas Works Park in Seattle. The park is located just north of downtown on Lake Union and features a hill that's perfect for watching the sun set. Most summer nights there is a mellow crowd of people enjoying the free show.
This shot was taken about twenty minutes after sunset. The color is provided by a thin cirrus cloud that turned a beautiful shade of red. The shot is slightly manipulated to increase contrast and saturation (to compensate for what web publication typically takes away) but what you see is very close to what was actually there. This reminds me of some German expressionist film or maybe a Tim Burton vision. Are they watching their son/husband go off to war? Very evocative.
